Temperatures rising for school science exhibition!!

We were exploring heat this month.

We explored heat conductors and insulators.

We also examined the different ways heat can be transferred.

Temperature effects the movement of air and water.

In this experiment we could see the hot (red) water rising to the top

and the cold (blue) water moving down to the bottom.

Insulators

Which cover will keep our water warmer over time??

We used thermometers to keep track of the temperature.

We recorded our results carefully.

Incredible Edibles

Our pack has arrived and we have been busy planting.

We have started our chives, lettuce and spinach indoors.

We have also been learning all about plants and soil.

Engineers Week

Working as an engineer involves solving challenges and

requires  planning, imagining, designing, testing and improving.

Here we are working as excellent engineers

Scoil Drámaíochta

Bhí an áthas ar na páistí an corn mór seo a ghleacadh ar son

rang a ceathair Scoil Náisiúnta Bhaile Meánach!!

Ghleacamar páirt sa chomórtas scoildrámaíochta na Gailimhe i mbliana.

‘Níl aon tinteán mar do thinteán féin’, an t’ainm a bhí ar.

Bhaineamar an-sult agus tairbhe as bheith ag plé leis.

Pancake Tuesday

We made delicious pancakes.

What you need:

  • 125g/4oz Odlums Cream Plain Flour
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 1 Egg
  • 300ml/½pt Milk
  • Oil for frying

How to  make:

  1. Sieve flour and salt into a bowl.
  2. Make a well in the centre of the flour, break in the egg and add about a third of the milk. Beat well, gradually pouring in the rest of the milk and drawing in the flour to make a smooth batter.

3. Pour batter into a jug and allow to stand for about 30 minutes.

4. Brush a pancake pan or frying pan with oil. When the pan is hot, give the batter a stir before pouring a thin layer onto the pan.

5. Fry until golden brown. Turn and fry the other side until brown also.

6. Stack pancakes on a large plate, as they are cooked.

7. Fill with fresh fruit and drizzle with maple syrup, or choose one of our other delicious sweet or savoury fillings below. Enjoy!

Magnetism

We explored magnets. Magnets can repel and attract.

We investigated what magnets are attracted to at school and at home.

We made the paper clip move without touching it using our magnets.

Maths Games

Games are a great way to improve our fractions knowledge.

St Bridget’s  Day

We welcomed the spring today and remembered lot of stories about St. Bridget.

Here are our St. Bridget’s Day crosses

Halloween video – we forgot to put up our lovely Halloween song.

Watch it here for a limited time!!

Clay workshops

Our hard work has paid off …. look at our fabulous pots!

We’ve been working with clay over the past month. We found some very useful videos from Mrs. Clay to help us improve our skills and techniques. Click on the menu tab to see the full playlist!

Here’s a link to the videos.

Why not try working with clay at home too?! (Air dry clay 12.5kg costs less than €15 – cregal art, crafty art, Loughrea School and office supplies  etc. – maybe you could share a bag with your friends and family?)

You will be able to take your time and let your imagination flow.

Don’t forget to bring your creations in for us all to see or take some pictures of your work.

Puppet making

We used recycled materials to make lovely puppets!

Claymations

We made a quick stop photo animation using our lovely clay figures. Check it out below!

Ag cur sneachta

Bhí brat bán sneachta ar an talamh i mBailemeanach!

Rinneamar fir sneachta!

Scríobhamar scéalta faoi.

Maths Christmas Challenge

We used all our maths skills to plan a Christmas party.

It was great fun working out the problems and working together.

Letters from down under.

Our letters arrived from Perth, Australia today.

We were very excited. We were very curious about our new pen pals.

They had very artistic pictures and lots of information about life in Australia.

We started to write our letters back straight away!!

Siopadóireacht

Is maith linn bheith ag siopadóireacht agus ag canadh.

Éist lenár n-amhrán nua.

Tá an “password” ag na páistí!

Science Week

We had great fun carrying out experiments during Science Week.

A big thank you to Ciarán’s Mammy for the lovely science week rulers.

Sculpting

We used clay to sculpt animals.

We practiced different techniques for joining clay.

Halloween in Ballymana

Art and Craft

Paul Klee – contrasted colour and black.

Here are some of our Paul Klee inspired work.

We explored line and shading and completed portraits of famous people

We used wool to make worry dolls and to weave beautiful God’s Eyes…

Gaeilge

Bhaineamar an sult as an amhrain seo.

Éist leis!

We used chalk pastels to draw portraits of each other to decorate the hall outside our classroom.

Maths games

We used concrete materials to explore place value

Dice games are great! We can consolidate our maths concepts and have fun!
